8- WarnMe emergency alert service
Managers and supervisors have special
responsibilities in an emergency.
- Many campus employees do not have access to
phones and e-mail. WarnMe alerts cannot reach
them - It is vital that their managers and supervisors
immediately alert them to emergency situations
and provide instructions
9WarnMe emergency alert service
The campus siren alert will still be used.
- WarnMe will be tested in conjunction with the
campus siren alert, which is tested at noon on
the first Wednesday of each month - At all other times, when campus community members
hear the siren, they should - Shelter in place
- Shut doors and windows
- Seek information and instructions
on the web at www.berkeley.edu or
emergency.berkeley.edu by phone at
(800) 705-9998 on the radio at KALX
(90.7 FM)
10WarnMe emergency alert service
WarnMe is carefully planned and tested.
- Chancellor Birgeneau charged a taskforce to plan
and implement an alerting and warning system by
Sept. 2008 - To ensure reliable service 24/7, UC Berkeley is
working closely with a commercial provider,
Wide-area Rapid Notification that specializes in
rapid public notification - There is a redundant infrastructure around the
country to support the system - UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UCSF are using the
same provider for their alerting and warning
system - Periodic large-scale tests of the system at UC
Berkeley will be scheduled and announced. The
first test will be conducted on November 5.
