Future Outlook
System Overview
Internet Interfaced Data Acquisition can easily
be modified for use in various other data
acquisition applications in remote locations such
as oil patch, small scale hydro-electric, and
wind power generation projects.
  • Main advantages of using an Internet Interfaced
    Data Acquisition System
  • on line monitoring of up-to- date conditions
  • reduced need for operator presence in remote
    locations
  • savings associated with early detection of
    equipment failure
  • can be used as a training tool

Internet Interfaced Data Acquisition System
collects data typically needed for nursery
operation such as soil moisture levels and air
temperature, as well as some of the system self
diagnostic information, and sends that
information wirelessly to a web based server.
This information therefore becomes accessible
from any internet enabled device.
Some of the alternative applications for the
Internet Interfaced Data Acquisition System
Further advancements in microelectronics will
make it viable to equip individual sensors with
networking and communication capabilities. In
this case instead of collecting the information
in a centralized device, a user could
communicate directly with each individual
sensor.
One of the main applications of the Internet
Interfaced Data Acquisition System are nurseries
System block diagram
Most nurseries should be able to recover the cost
of the system within one year, this will however
depend on the size of the operation.
Communication is done through a wireless cellular
network. For areas without cellular coverage,
satellite communication could be an option. Main
components of the Internet Interfaced Data
Acquisition System are the ATmega8 microprocessor
and MTSMC-G-F1 socket modem mounted on the two
sided PCB.
Cost Analysis
Web Interface
Total cost of the manufacturing of the system,
assuming a large scale production is estimated to
be 200 with a 15 contingency. Items which
need to be added to the overall cost would be the
cost of marketing of the product, installation
cost, internet subscription, and costs associated
with web development and server set up.
Web interface allows for a user friendly, easily
customized, way to display data collected from
the field.
