  astronomy and vision
• But also change the way science is done
• Develop partnerships (between fields, with
  labs/ industry)

• Outreach to K-12 and public at large

• Take this second aspect of the mission seriously

• 5 time commitment of scientists in the Center
  (12.5 of budget!)

ALU LIKE program to train Native Hawaiians as
technicians for Hawaii observatories

• Currently very few Hawaiians among observatory
  staff
• We are bring trainees to LLNL 6 months Hawaii
  internships follow

Our first interns Kristian Keahi and Shordon
Lopes, on Mauna Kea Shordon is now working at
Keck Kristian will go to college in fall Next
group of interns is currently being recruited
