Meteors

• A meteor, sometimes called a "shooting star," can
  be the brightest object in the night sky

A brilliant meteor, called a fireball, may weigh
many kilograms, but even a meteor weighing less
than a gram can produce a beautiful trail.

• Asteroids are metallic, rocky bodies without
• Asteroids that orbit the Sun but are too small to
  be classified as planets.

• When the meteor enters the earths atmosphere it
  becomes really hot like when you rub your hands
  together for a few seconds
• Some asteroids have other asteroids orbiting
  them.

Definition of Meteor and Asteroid

• Meteors- Rock, iron and/or icy body entering the
  Earth's atmosphere.
• Asteroids-Naturally formed solid bodies that
  orbit the sun, have no atmosphere and no signs of
  gas or dust coming from them. Most are found in
  orbit between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

meteor is 1.2km in diameter and has a maximum
depth of 183 meters. It was created by a
meteorite of 70 meters in diameter impacting at
11km/second.

Meteor

• The term meteor comes from the Greek meteor on,
  meaning phenomenon in the sky. It is used to
  describe the streak of light produced as matter
  in the solar system falls into Earth's atmosphere
  creating temporary incandescence resulting from
  atmospheric friction. This typically occurs at
  heights of 80 to 110 kilometers (50 to 68 miles)
  above Earth's surface.

Asteroids

• Several hundred thousand asteroids have been
  discovered and given provisional designations so
  far. Thousands more are discovered each year.
  There are undoubtedly hundreds of thousands more
  that are too small to be seen from the earth.
  There are 26 known asteroids larger than 200 km
  in diameter. Our census of the largest ones is
  now fairly complete we probably know 99 of the
  asteroids larger than 100 km in diameter. Of
  those in the 10 to 100 km range we have cataloged
  about half. But we know very few of the smaller
  ones there are probably considerably more than a
  million asteroids in the 1 km range.

  alert because of an asteroid then thought to be
  on an impact course. Mr. Schweickart told a
  hearing that "the media and the general public
  realized that asteroids are of more than passing
  interest. This happen last year april 8th
