Location
  • Where is it?
  • 1. Absolute Location its precise position on
    the globe.
  • 2. Relative Location A place in relation to
    other places.

Absolute Location Latitude
  • Imaginary Lines that circle the earth parallel to
    the Equator.
  • Equator is 0 latitude
  • N Pole lies 90º N
  • S Pole lies 90º S
  • Latitude line N of Equator N
  • Latitude line S of Equator S
  • Tropic of Cancer 231/2 N
  • Tropic of Capricorn 231/2 S

Absolute Location Longitude
  • Imaginary lines going from Pole to Pole
  • Also called meridians
  • Prime Meridan 0º
  • Longitude east of the PM E
  • Longitude west of the PM W
  • Go from 0-180 degrees both directions.
  • International date line at 180º, at this point
    the date changes.
  • For every 15º of longitude the times changes 1
    hour.

  • 69 miles btwn degrees

  • Every place has its own physical features
    weather, plant life, water, landforms.
  • Every place has its own human features
    population, religion, sports, farming, language,
    customs.

  • What is the relationship between people and
    their environment.
  • Why are some places on earth desirable others
    not?
  • 1. How people adapt to environment
  • 2. How have people modified their environment.
    This could be for the negative or positive.
  • 3. How do people move goods people are
    interdependent

    characteristics.
  • Physical could be, mountainous, deserts,
    grasslands, etc.
  • Physical could also be by climate. Climate
    controls what is grown in an area and how people
    live.
