Preliminary Thought
  • The occurrence of students having severe trouble
    in mathematics is unfortunately one that is all
    too common and familiar.
  • Technology is an invaluable benefit in teaching
    and learning mathematics, and it is my belief
    that it can be used to help a struggling math
    student effectively.

The Students
  • Two students were chosen by the teacher of a 5th
    and 6th grade classroom. Both of these students
    had struggled with math the first semester of the
    school year.

Suzzette Navajar
Suzzette is 11 years old and the oldest of two in
her family. She loves ice cream, horses, and
swimming. For 6 years she has been attending
Mission Christian School and is a 5th grader in
Mrs. Mercados class.

Anna Leyva
  • Anna is 12 years old and is the middle child of
    three in her family. She loves basketball and
    taking care of the many animals her family
    raises. For 7 years Anna has been attending
    Mission Christian School and is a 6th grader in
    Mrs. Mercados class.

With or Without Technology
  • After our first tutoring meeting, I decided to
    use technology to tutor Suzzette. She had the
    most experience with computer use and had a
    computer in her room.
