3The Web Citation Index
- Indexing content within Institutional
Repositories (IRs) - Provides a uniform, consistent citation index for
content (pre-prints, archived articles, technical
reports, dissertations, etc.) available on the
Open Web. - Promotion of IR Resources
- Provides links and citation data at article level
as an incentive for every researcher to post
work on IRs - Enables citation navigation within IRs and
between IRs and the Web of Science. - Incorporates a quality editorial process a
Thomson Scientific tradition. IRs must be
consistent in data format and timely with updated
information. - Is multidisciplinary in scope, encompassing same
disciplinary structure as the Web of Science
wherever possible.

5Full Text and Repository are searchable fields
6Same functionality as the Web of Science. For
example, sort by Times Cited to identify
influential works.
7Although the Full-text is searchable the Full
Record displays bibliographic data and abstract.
Clicking the View Full Text button will link to
the item in the repository.
8Use citation navigation to expand the search -
Cited References- Times Cited- Related Records
9Associated records link an item to a related work
by the same author, for example a completed paper
and the initial draft of the same work
10Results Analyses are also possible.
11Future plans
- Completed re-work of the back end technology
Q3-Q4 2007 - No longer use the automated identification of
Cited References - Instead it will utilize Thomson Scientifics
in-house indexing systems, technology and
expertise to identify and tag cited references.
Improving the quality. - Port to the ISI Web of Knowledge 4 interface
- Categorize all records using the ISI Web of
Knowledge subject categorization schemes - Complete by January 2008
