What is a picture frame

• A picture frame is a shape that out lines a
  picture and can hang on the wall.
• They use picture frames to decorate houses.
• They come in many shapes and styles

Getting the molding

• When you order molding you should order 25 more
  of the molding.
• You can shape it with a router and other tools.

Tools you will need.

• Tape measure
• Stud finder
• Level
• Pencil
• Router
• Fine tooth miter saw
• Picture hanger or other fastener
• You can fine these at sears, Wal-Mart, or any
  local department store.

Planning cuts and estimating molding

• First determine the size of the frame needed as
  measured between the rabbets.
• Allow enough molding for the waste at the meters
  and for the saw kerf. Allow the width of the
  molding for each miter cut.

Lay out and cutting

• All the miter cuts are made with the rabbeted
  edge of the molding toward the operator.

Assembly

• You can make your own clamping devices using a
  four corner miter blocks with tension applied by
  strong rubber bands.
• When putting in nails to hold it to gather they
  should be long enough to reach nearly 2/3 there
  length into the second piece of the miter joint.

Measuring and cutting glass

• When cutting the glass make sure to use a
  straight edge to make good cuts.
• When cutting the glass make sure you have the
  cutter toward your self.
• When scoring the glass do not delay the break.
• When you want to remove the piece set it on the
  edge of the table and gently tap the piece you
  want off.

Mounting new picture into frame

• When putting a picture frame to gather you should
  put them to gather in this order, the backing,
  the image shed, the matt, and the glass or
  plastic.
• You can use staples and brads to hang them and
  just use a small hammer to put them in.

The dust seal

• Put the Kraft paper on a table and dampen it with
  a sponge and then stick fome to the other side
  and then glue it to the picture frame and that
  makes it a seal.

Choose a location

• First you want to find a location for the picture
  and the picture frame.
• If you put it over a large sofa make sure the
  picture is big or it will make it look bad
• Make sure if its a heavy picture that it is hung
  from a stud.

Finding the center

• After you choose where to hang it, take the tape
  measure and find the center of the wall and mark
  it with a small x.
• To find the center of the wall you take the tape
  measure and measure the whole wall, then divide
  the measure you got by 2.

Top of frame line drop

• Using a level, make a very light pencil line that
  extends through the center mark and meets the top
  of frame line
• On the back of the picture frame there is a wire.
  Hook the metal end of the tape measure under the
  hanging wire and pull upward, simulating the
  force on the wire that will be caused by the
  hanging picture on a nail or hanger.

• The wire will pull upward to a point near the top
  of the frame. Measure the distance from the point
  to the top of the frame.
• Measure that same distance down the vertical line
  from the top of the frame line. Make a pencil x
  there to mark the place at which the wire will
  come to its highest point when the picture is
  hanging.

Installing the hanger

• Drive the hanger into the wall making sure that
  the point on which the wire will rest is located
  at the x. On most standard pictures hangers, the
  nail actually goes into the wall a few
  millimeters above the hanging point. After this
  hang your picture use the level to level your
  picture. If you like where the picture frame is
  placed then erase all pencil marks that you made.

The yard stick method

• If the picture you are hanging is light you can
  use a yard stick to determine where the hanger
  should be placed. This method is a lot quicker
  than the other one.
• There are 6 steps.

The yardstick method steps

• Put a finishing nail through the yard stick or
  thin strip or wood, making sure that it pokes out
  the back end. To avoid splitting, drill a pilot
  hole just smaller than the nail
• Hang the picture from the nail. Ask your helper
  to support the picture so its entire weight is
  not resting on the yard stick, but make surer the
  hanging wire is tight.

• 3.Place the picture up against the wall,
  using the stick to adjust it until it rests
  exactly where you want the picture to hang.
• 4. Press the yard stick up hard enough up
  against the wall hard enough to make a mark on
  the wall. This is the point that meats the hanger

• 5. Fasten the hanger to the wall at the
  appropriate point.
• 6. Hang the picture and use a level to
  adjustment.

Magnetic paint

• This paint has a concentrated magnetic additive,
  one cup of additive weighing 2 pounds. You can
  mix it with high quality primer /sealer, stain
  blocker paint. Use oil based or latex paint.
  Cover it with any kind of paint.
