  • In this session, you will learn how to
  • Use the Reference Collection
  • Find e-reserve items and past exam papers
  • Use the Online Catalogue
  • Access full-text articles using JSTOR and APA-FT

Reference Collection
  • Found on the Ground Floor of Dixson Library
  • Includes encyclopedias, dictionaries and
    bibliographies
  • Most entries written by experts
  • Reference items cannot be borrowed
  • Reference items are in the catalogue with R
    call numbers, eg R821.8

  • Gale Literary Criticism Series eg Twentieth

  • Find items by author using browse (author) search
    and family name and initial(s), eg Donne J or

  • Find items about an author by a keyword (subject
    search)
  • Does not require a UNE username/ password (unless
    renewing loans)

Finding Subject Headings
  • Perform a simple browse (title) search, eg
    Shakespeare
  • Click on Full link next to item title
  • Click on subject heading, eg Shakespeare,
    William, 1564-1616
  • Subject headings are also findable by simple
    keyword search, eg Shakespeare

Renewing Loans
  • Click on catalogue link
  • Click on Renew Loans
  • Enter Patron ID and Password
  • Renew by clicking on button next to title of
    items
  • If limit has been reached or item has been
    requested by another user, no button appears. You
    must return the item to us

  • Contains the full-text of 65 academic journals
    on Language and Literature
  • Search by article title or in full-text content
  • Results available in seconds
  • All full text
  • Limit results to specific years or individual
    titles, English Journal

  • Click on Advanced Search

  • Limit your search to specific years, if required
  • Click in the Language and Literature check box

  • APA-FT is short for Australian Public
    Affairs-Full Text
  • All Australian content
  • Includes articles from a range of different
    publications
  • Has full-text as well as links out to full-text
    elsewhere using the Find It button
  • Does not always include every article in an issue

Accessing APA-FT
  • Go to Library page at http//www.une.edu.au/libra
    ry
  • Click on e-resources
  • Choose Informit from Quick Links
  • Click in check box next to APA-FT
  • Click on Start Searching button

Searching APA-FT
  • Type Jolley in the first search box on the first
    row
  • Choose NOT from the pull-down menu at the start
    of the second row
  • Type Jolley in the first search box on the second
    row
  • Choose Author from the pull-down menu at the end
    of the second row
  • Click on Search button

Accessing full text
  • If an article is an available in APA-FT, you can
    click on the PDF-Full Text button
  • This will bring up Adobe Acrobat Reader window
  • If not, click on the Find IT button to search for
    electronic holdings elsewhere
  • The Find It window also allows you to search for
    print holdings in the catalogue

Finding Journals
  • Go to Library Catalogue
  • Click on Browse
  • Enter the title of the journal in the Search box
  • Choose Journal Title from the pull-down menu
  • Click on Search button
  • Look for Call No (usually begins with a P)

Electronic Journals
  • E-journal holdings have a note after the Journal
    Title in the Catalogue, eg English Journal
    Electronic Resource
  • Click on the Title with Electronic Resource note
  • Click on Multimedia Link in journal record
  • Enter your UNE username/password

  • Depends on index
  • With ProQuest, you need to click on the
    Publications tab and then search for the title
  • With Expanded Academic, you need to perform a
    Publication Search
  • Otherwise you should reach the journal home page
