  • 1. pre-reflective- requires no thinking its
    something one simply knows its implicit and
    non-thematic
  • - while considered lesser than reflective,
    it has value in that it is the basis of
    philosophical thought

2. Reflective - something one thinks aboutit is
explicit and thematic - it is more
important than pre-reflective for it is knowledge
proper an explicitation

2 Elements in knowing
  • Subject termed also as neosis and
    being-outside-itself-with reality
  • Object termed also as neoma and
    reality-of-the-object-to-which consciousness is
    present

Consciousness is
  • Never wrapped up in itself it is openness
  • Intercourse with reality it is self-giving of
    the percieved, not through imagination nor
    dreaming
  • Not pure passivity, which is usually illustrated
    by the mirror and the camera

Viewpoint,Profile and Horizon
  • Viewpoint is what subject sees
  • Profile - is any part of the object the subject
    sees
  • Horizon- refers to unity or background of
    meanings
  • the more one has of viewpoints and profiles,
    the more one knows

    perfection
