AIM
  • To treat the curable blindness at Nigeria

Why Nigeria / Introduction Goal of Project
  • The Federal Republic of Nigeria, located at
    Western Africa has a population of 134 million.
    Out of which, 3 million are blind and 12 million
    people are visually impaired.
  • There are less than 300 Ophthalmologist there, so
    blindness is actually a public health issue with
    significant societal implications.
  • So, Rotary Eye Institute has planned project with
    3 components.
  • Immediate implementation of eye screening camps
    at different population centers.
  • Medium term component of project include
    transitory development of Nigeria as a satellite
    centre of REI and training of Ophthalmologist.
  • 3. Long term project as establishment of National
    Eye Institute at Nigeria.

Details of Project
  • Investment in human capital such as education and
    health has a longer fructification period.
  • A restored or improved vision of an individual
    increases potential to genocide a life stream of
    income for the rest of his productive life.
  • Its contribution towards increasing gross
    National Precuts or improving the quality is
    substantial.
  • Our attempt to do 1000 surgeries and screening of
    6000 patients makes only small deist in an
    otherwise neglected were of medical services.
