GEOTECHNICS
  • TITLE SPECIFICATION FOR
  • REINFORCED SOIL
  • STRUCTURES.

2
GROUP MEMBERS
  • Mohd. Ayub Bin Abdul Ghani.
  • Nik Suhaila Binti Nik Mohamad Ravi.
  • Isabella Boy Setanis.

3
SCOPE
  • INTRODUCTION
  • DESIGN
  • DEFINITIONS
  • MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS
  • METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

4
1.0 INTRODUCTION
  • Specification for reinforced soil structures is
also known as the specification of Geotechnical
    Work.
  • Geotechnical work is a work relating to soil
    mechanics,

5
  • foundation engineering, rock mechanics,
    engineering geology, hydrogeology and material
    testing.

6
2.0 DESIGN
  • Subsoil Investigation
  • Design Standard
  • Design Calculation
  • ISO Certification

7
Subsoil Investigation
  • Shall be carried out based on the initial design
and construction works as to determine the
adequacy and stiffness of the subsoil.
  • Performed by qualified P.Eng.

8
Design Standard
  • Reinforced soil structures design based on the
British Standard,BS 80061995 Code of Practice
for Strengthened/Reinforced Soils and other fills.

9
Design Calculation
  • Design Report including design calculations will
be submitted by the specialist contractor and
reviewed by geotechnical or checked by the
    consultant.
  • Approved by a Professional Engineer.

10
ISO Certification
  • Is an official document that states a specialist
contractor for the construction of Reinforced
Soil Structures are true and have reached the
    certification of ISO 9001.

3.0 DEFINITIONS
  • Consists of
  • Anchored Earth
  • Backfill material
  • Cohesive frictional fill
  • Frictional Fill
  • Reinforced Earth

13
Anchored Earth
  • Means a form of reinforced soil which uses
anchors embedded within the backfill soil mass to
    provide stability.
  • Example of anchored earth application Retaining
    wall.

15
Backfill Material
  • Meaning Fill material in the reinforced soil
structure in contact with the reinforcing
    elements, connections and facings.

16
Cohesive Frictional Fill
  • Meaning A fill containing gt 15 material passing
a 63µm sieve in accordance with BS 410.
  • Frictional Fill
  • Meaning A fill containing lt 15 material passing
a 63µm test sieve in accordance with BS 410.

17
Reinforced Earth
  • Meaning A form of reinforced soil which uses
reinforcing elements embedded within the backfill
    soil mass to provide stability.

6.0 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
  • Consists of
  • Supply of System Components Materials
  • -Unit of measurement for the
  • supply of all system components
  • materials for the wall including

20
  • the facing panels, reinforcing
  • elements, anchor blocks, joint
  • materials, fasteners and other accessories
    shall be in square
  • metres of the wall surface area.
  • Excavation

21
  • -Excavation is a trench or
  • depression in an earth surface,
  • formed by earth removal.
  • -Unit m³
  • Wall Erection
  • -Unit m² of wall surface area
  • erected.

22
  • -The embedded portion of the
  • wall, joint gaps and drainage or
  • service holes in the wall shall be
  • included in measurement of the
  • wall surface area.
  • Concrete Levelling Pad
  • -Length in linear metre completed

23
  • in place and accepted, measured
  • along the line and grade of the
  • pad.
  • Backfill
  • -Compacted volume in m³.
