About Gantry Cranes A gantry crane is a crane
built atop a gantry, which is a structure used to
straddle an object or workspace. This structure
allows the crane to move along a fixed track,
typically on rails.
3
Types of Gantry Cranes
Full Gantry Crane The most common type, it has
two upright legs that support a bridge, allowing
the crane to move in two dimensions (along the
track and across the bridge). Semi-Gantry Crane
One leg is fixed to a wall or structure, while
the other leg is free-standing. Jib Gantry Crane
Has a single upright leg and a jib arm that
extends horizontally. Mobile Gantry Crane Can be
moved and repositioned on site as needed.
4
Common Applications
Gantry cranes are found in a wide range of
industries
Construction Lifting building materials,
prefabricated components, etc.
Manufacturing Moving heavy machinery, raw
materials, and finished products.
Warehousing Transporting goods within warehouses
and distribution centers. Shipyards
Building and repairing ships. Mining
Loading and unloading ore and other materials.
Rail Yards Moving rail cars and components.
5
Gantry Crane Capacity and Specifications
Common Capacity Ranges Light-Duty Gantry Cranes
1-5 tons Medium-Duty Gantry Cranes 5-20 tons
Heavy-Duty Gantry Cranes 20-100
tons Capacity Lifting Capacity This is the
maximum weight a crane can lift at a specific
point. Its influenced by factors like the
cranes structural strength, hoisting mechanism,
and the type of load. Span The distance between
the two legs or supports of the crane. A larger
span allows for a wider coverage area but may
limit the lifting capacity. Hoist Height The
maximum vertical distance the load can be lifted.
