About This Presentation
Title:

Portugal Lisboa28 From Pombal to Principe Real

Description:

From Praça do Marquês de Pombal to Jardim do Principe Real Lisbon’s long and storied history can be seen in its architecture. And its geography is as distinct as its buildings. Built on seven hills with the river Tagus flowing through its heart, the city is blessed with an unusual light, which reflects off the water onto white tiled streets. Its architecture makes the most of this, with buildings designed around luminosity, shade and shadow and often searching out river views. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

This stately Moorish-design building was built in
1857 by Ribeiro da Cunha, a wealthy businessman
who made his fortune in Brazil. The building has
two entrances, an Arabic-inspired interior
courtyard, a noble staircase, stained glass

This XIX century new-Arabian Palace was turned
into an innovative shopping gallery that hosts a
series of national brands and artists focused on
Portuguese design, craftsmanship, fashion,
gastronomy and culture. The result is a meeting
point of people and experiences, tradition and
contemporaneity, blending preservation of the
architectural heritage with the newest that
Portugal has to offer

Jardim do Príncipe Real
54
The Jardim do Príncipe Real (Royal Princes
Garden) has one of the most beautiful and famous
trees of Lisboa, a giant Mexican White Cedar
(Cupressus lusitanica) with a crown of 23 meters
of diameter. Under the Garden we can find a
19thcentury stone water reservoir, the
Reservatório da Patriarcal (Patriarcal
Reservoir), which belongs to the Museu da Água
(Water Museum). The monumental, 145-year,
Cupressus lusitanica with his branches that are
supported on metal poles to keep them up is
Lisbons most loved tree
