Portugal Porto18 City center

Description:

Porto has its origins in a pre-Roman settlement called Calle or Portus Cale, that originated the name of the country. Records indicate that the town was founded in 417. Over the centuries it had various rulers, among others the Suevi, the Goths and the Moors. However, it was not until the “Age of Discoveries” that Portugal and Porto had an important role in the European affairs. Porto became a major trading port and in the 15th century it was one of the greatest ship building centers in Portugal. In the XVII Century Oporto knows an important growth due to the wine commerce. It was a period of great urban and administrative development. Now is considered the most impressive city in the north and deserved the classification of World Heritage Site by UNESCO – PowerPoint PPT presentation
