6Metrosideros is a genus of approximately 60
trees, shrubs and vines mostly found in the
Pacific region. Most of the tree forms are small,
but some are exceptionally large, the New Zealand
species in particular
Araucaria and metrosideros
7Perhaps the best-known species are the pohutukawa
(Metrosideros excelsa) of New Zealand. The
pohutukawa of New Zealand has several cultivars
grown in Australia, Hawai and Califorinia and it
has been planted successfully in the north of
Spain and Portugal. These ones are from the Foz
Gardens in Porto, Portugal

residential area on the seafront with magnificent
private homes. Today some of these houses were
