About This Presentation
Title:

Iris, the spring jewel17 (Flowers in Art)

Description:

The iris flower is one of the beautiful creations of Mother Nature. The iris is the jewel of spring. With their intriguing shape and rainbow variation of colors, it inspired many artists because this flower can inspire deep feelings of love, trust, and care. For the Ancient Egyptians, the iris flower was a symbol of majesty and power. In Greek mythology, iris was the messenger of the gods and it never brought anything but good news. As a reward for its fierce services, it was changed into a rainbow, as it is a symbol of the return of good weather. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Before the Second World War, Sir Cedric Morris
was a well-known painter and breeder of irises,
which he admired for their 'elegance, pride and
delicacy'. In 1940 he moved to Benton End in
Suffolk, where he cultivated a garden inspired by
Claude Monet's at Giverny. He grew about
1,000 new iris seedlings every year.
