1
HANDY TIPS ON HOW TO
Handle Disrespectfulness In Children
2
As an educator, it is common to deal with
disrespectful and impolite children. Even though
it might seem like a challenging task, teachers
as well as parents have the responsibility to not
only teach but also practice mutual respect,
especially within a city like Dubai. .
If youre from the UAE, you have to keep in mind
that the middle schools in Dubai are popular for
accommodating children from different
backgrounds.
So mutual respect is imperative. Lets learn
more. Here are some tips to keep in mind while
dealing with such situations.
3
Ignorance Is Bliss
Before you teach your students or children to
behave properly, you must learn to ignore some of
their antics. As an adult, you should learn to
tolerate harmless childish acts. Feel free to let
it slide sometimes.
Avoid overreacting to every word or action. By
staying calm and composed, their behaviour loses
its impact, as they start to realize it no longer
triggers the response they expect.
4
Keep An Eye On External Influences
Children are influenced very easily. They imitate
what they see and hear. Be alert about what they
are consuming on the internet. Social media and
movies have a tendency to glamourize
disrespectful behaviour as cool.
Friends also have a great influence on their
upbringing. Keep an eye on these things and you
can easily track the source of your problem.
5
Be A Role Model For Your Children
Children are great observers. They consistently
observe the mannerisms, gestures and even the
spoken words of the parents and teachers.
If you're with children, Be thoughtful and alert
while dealing with a frustrating situation. Dont
let your anger out in front of them. Handle the
situation responsibly so they can learn the same
from you.
6
More Rewards Less Punishment
Instead of giving punishments, give privileges
for their good behaviour. For example, instead of
saying No more TV till you finish your
homework, you could say, When you finish your
homework, you can watch your favourite show.
This approach conditions your child to understand
that their good behaviour can be rewarding. KG1
schools in Dubai have similar classroom rules and
routines for managing their children.
7
Teach Your Child Healthy Ways To Express
Frustration
Anger and frustration are common emotions seen in
children, but disrespect often arises when they
fail to manage these emotions. Teach them how to
cope with their feelings without outbursts.
Teach them I feel statements to help them
convey their feelings better. For example, train
them to say, I feel frustrated when I cant find
my toys, rather than yelling or acting out
It would also make a huge difference if deep
breathing exercises were taught from a young age.
Research has shown that this exercise can have
calming influences on both adults and children.
8
Follow these tips to help your children manage
their feelings and communicate better with their
peers and adults. Private schools in the UAE take
considerate measures to ensure their students are
well-behaved. Remember that no child is the same
and each child requires undivided attention to
grow and learn
