Shri Amit Nigam is an IPS officer of 2015 batch
born on Nagaland cadre. Coming from a humble
background, he pursued a Bachelor of Technology
in Electrical Engineering and began his career by
joining the Council of Scientific and Industrial
Research (CSIR). His strong dedication to public
service led him to qualify for the Assistant
Commandant exam for the Central Armed Police
Forces (CAPF). However, his civil service
journey began when he cleared the exam for the
Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) in
2011-12, where he served as an Assistant
Controller of Defence Accounts in Bangalore for
nearly two years.

Determined to further his career in public
service, Shri Nigam reappeared for the UPSC exam
and was selected for the Indian Revenue Service
(Customs and Excise) in 2014. During his training
at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect
Taxes, and Narcotics (NACIN) in Faridabad, his
commitment to civil service prompted him to
retake the exam, this time successfully joining
the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2015. After
completing his training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA),
Hyderabad, Shri Nigam was posted in Nagaland.
During his probation period, he demonstrated
exceptional investigative skills by cracking
several cyber-related cases, including a series
of OLX scams that were prevalent at the time. His
keen focus on cybercrime earned him recognition
early in his career.

As the Superintendent of Police (SP) in the
districts of Kiphire and Tuensang in Nagaland,
Shri Nigam took numerous innovative initiatives
aimed at community engagement and crime
prevention. One of his key initiatives was the
launch of Police Ki Pathshala, a program
designed to educate young students about online
scams and fraud prevention. He also introduced
Police Feedback Boxes, which enabled citizens to
report crimes anonymously, leading to the
resolution of many day-to-day criminal cases. In
addition to his work against cybercrime, Shri
Nigam took strong measures against anti-social
elements, insurgents, and drug traffickers. His
relentless efforts led to the successful
apprehension of insurgents and the seizure of
illegal weapons during multiple operations. As SP
(Organised Crime) Nagaland, he registered dozens
of cases against major drug traffickers and
kingpins, recovering significant quantities of
drugs and dismantling criminal networks operating
in the region.

In 2022, Shri Amit Nigam joined the National
Investigation Agency (NIA) on Central Deputation,
where he continues to serve with distinction,
contributing to national security and law
enforcement on a broader scale.
