Bakrie University Imparting Experiential
Learning Methodologies to Help Students Become
Future-Ready
  • The experiential learning methodology is creating
a majestic boom on a global scale. Numerous
    prominent universities and educational institutes
are rendering exemplary education. One such
    formidable organization is Bakrie University,
thriving under the leadership of Sofia W.
    Alisjahbana.
  • Bakrie University was incepted as Bakrie School
of Management, which had 2 study programs in
2006, then transformed into a university in 2010.
Universitas Bakrie later expanded to have 10
undergraduate study programs and 2 master's
programs. The institute envisions being a
    globally recognized university through engagement
    with industries and experiential learning
methods. This is reflected in their mission
    statement, which emphasizes providing highquality
education in a competitive environment using
    practical and experiential learning methods.
  • The Genesis of the Institution and its
    Inspiration
  • Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, Bakrie University is
owned by the Bakrie Group, a prominent business
    conglomerate. The Bakrie Education Foundation
established this school to demonstrate its
    dedication to fostering Indonesia's development
    of exceptional human resources. The
transformation was approved based on the Decree
of the Minister of National Education of the
    Republic of Indonesia.
  • They keep striving to enhance the quality of
    education. With its unique "Experiential
Learning" method, the university enables students
to experience direct involvement in the corporate
and business worlds through "Real Cases and Real
Practices in a Real Business Environment."
Additionally, students get the chance to receive
personal guidance from the CEO of Bakrie Business
Group (KUB), a reliable corporate and industrial
    player.
  • The Woman at the Helm
  • The Rector at Bakrie University, Prof. Ir. Sofia
    W. Alisjahbana, is a distinguished academician,
renowned educator, competent professional, and an
efficient administrator. Sofia is a highly
    qualified professional who

mechanics from the prestigious University of
WisconsinMadison, USA (1988), her doctorate in
    philosophy in engineering mechanics and
astronautics (1992), and her bachelor's degree in
science from the Department of Civil Engineering
at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia
    (1986).
  • Prof. Sofia joined Bakrie University in 2009 and
contributed to its transformation from Bakrie
School of Management to Bakrie University in
2010. Under her guidance, the university added
two doctoral programs and grew from two
    undergraduate programs to ten.
  • Prof. Sofia is an exceptional engineering expert
in Indonesia. She has authored seven books,
including one on the effects of blast loads on
the dynamic behavior of floor and roof plates.

The Bakrie Group also organizes an annual Job
Fair, which provides graduates with an
opportunity to learn about job openings within
the Bakrie Group. Plus, its internship programs
give students hands-on experience in Bakrie Group
companies. The Integration of Innovation and
Technology Bakrie University assures its business
programs are updated with today's rapidly
evolving business landscape by incorporating
innovation and technology. Here, students learn
through interactive methods like online platforms
and simulations, which help them apply what they
learn to real-life situations. They also have the
opportunity to start their own businesses and use
technology to solve problems. Working with
industry partners provides students with insight
into what's happening in the business world
today. This way, graduates are equipped to thrive
in today's competitive corporate world. Key
Trends Emerging in the Future Integration of
technology in learning Technologies like
artificial intelligence, hybrid learning, and
collaborative spaces are increasingly integrated
into teaching. This helps personalize learning
experiences and improves efficiency. The
institution is progressively introducing AI-based
courses in its computer engineering and
information systems programs, which strongly
emphasize technology and the advancement of
artificial intelligence. Emphasis on
entrepreneurship and innovation Currently, the
Business Innovation Center and Incubator, or
UBakriepreneur, has graduated 39 startups
spanning IT, services, food, and creative
industries. UBakriepreneur annually incubates at
least five businesses through partnerships with
domestic and international accelerators. The
incubation process spans three stages over three
semesters. Deeper industry involvement Bakrie
University is committed to maintaining a triple
helix of collaboration among universities,
government, and industry. The Ministry of
Education, Culture, Research, and Technology's
"Independent Campus, Independent Learning"
program allows students to intern or directly
learn from industries, which can be converted
into course credits. This aligns with Universitas
Bakrie's tagline, "Experience the Real Things,"
emphasizing its extensive industry networks,
including Bakrie Group and national and
international companies. Fostering Diversity and
Inclusion Bakrie University strives to treat
everyone fairly in student and staff recruitment,
regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, or
economic status. Here, students can freely choose
their courses, attend classes when it suits them,
and share their thoughts openly. This fairness
also extends to hiring staff, ensuring no
discrimination from interviews to employment. In
addition, the university has amenities for those
with disabilities, such as wheelchair-accessible
restrooms and railings. Unfurling the Flag of
Achievements and Future Outlook Under the
dynamic leadership of Sofia W. Alisjahbana,
Bakrie University has achieved exceptional
performance and success. The Times Higher
Education (THE) International Institute has
honored it with the title of Best Private Higher
Education in Jakarta for three consecutive years
(2021, 2022, and 2023). Looking ahead, Bakrie
University aims to become the leading industrial
campus in Indonesia by producing highly skilled
graduates with the skills required to thrive in
the dynamic labor market. The university is
committed to improving connections and
partnerships with industry and government, as
exemplified by its position within the Bakrie
Group ecosystem. By embracing this approach, they
aspire to build a more prosperous and innovative
future for the students and society at
large. Thank You.
