- The Directorate of Climate Change (DoCC) was
established in 2019-20 under the Environment,
Climate Change Coastal Development Department
(ECCCDD) Government of Sindh - Sindh took the lead and established its fully
fledge Directorate of Climate Change - Human resources are being hired/deputed to make
it fully functional

- Formulate a province-specific policy presenting
the full picture of the climate change situation
in the province and its effects and provide
robust solutions and implementation plans to
mitigate the effects. - Embed the concepts of Climate Compatible
Development (CCD) and Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs) to improve the understanding and
ensure water, food, energy, health nutrition
security for Sindh province in the face of a
changing climate.

50Sindh Climate Change Policy 2022
- The Climate Change Directorate has worked out the
first ever "Sindh Climate Change Policy-2022". - The Sindh Cabinet approved the Policy on Jul 07,
2022. - Vision
- A future when climate change will have minimum
possible adverse impacts and consequences on
natural resources of Sindh, its people and their
livelihood and to ensure sustainability of those
resources for coming generations - Goal
- The overall goal of Sindh Climate Change Policy
is to ensure that climate action is mainstreamed
in the development planning, particularly the
economically and socially vulnerable sectors of
the economy, and to steer Sindh towards economic
growth and climate compatible development

- Strengthen and expansion of Directorate at
district level to effectively implement the Sindh
Climate Change Policy - Draft of Sindh Climate Change Adaptation Plan
needs to be developed in line with the Federal
Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2022 - Introduction of Climate Financing and Carbon Tax
so that losses owing to climate disasters may be
offset on time and rehabilitation may be
expedited accordingly

- Establishment
- Under Section 25(1) of Sindh Environmental
Protection Act 2014, a Sindh Environmental
Protection Tribunal was established in 2015. - Powers and Jurisdiction
- Environmental Protection Tribunal shall exercise
such powers and perform such functions as are, or
may be conferred upon or assigned to it by or
under Sindh Environmental Protection Act 2014 or
the rules and regulations.

- Environment is being degraded as usual, natural
resources are being used more than their
permissible limits and not much is being done for
the development of a climate resilient economy
and society despite of their acceptance at all
levels - The urgent need is to come out from fascinating
documentations and put all our plans and policies
into action. - Else we will be referred in history as a nation
which turned into rubbles owing to its climate
inaction

- Overall budgetary allocations of the Department
may be doubled, more particularly at the
development side - PPP models may be introduced in the execution of
its development schemes if existing manpower is
not capable of executing them - A Special Purpose Vehicle under Sindh Public
Private Partnership Act 2010 may be perused to
impart eco trainings to government officers,
teachers and grassroots elected representatives
