Sindh Climate Change Policy 2022
  • The Climate Change Directorate has worked out the
first ever "Sindh Climate Change Policy-2022".
  • The Sindh Cabinet approved the Policy on Jul 07,
    2022.
  • Vision
  • A future when climate change will have minimum
possible adverse impacts and consequences on
natural resources of Sindh, its people and their
livelihood and to ensure sustainability of those
    resources for coming generations
  • Goal
  • The overall goal of Sindh Climate Change Policy
is to ensure that climate action is mainstreamed
in the development planning, particularly the
economically and socially vulnerable sectors of
the economy, and to steer Sindh towards economic
    growth and climate compatible development

51
Way Forward
  • Strengthen and expansion of Directorate at
district level to effectively implement the Sindh
    Climate Change Policy
  • Draft of Sindh Climate Change Adaptation Plan
needs to be developed in line with the Federal
    Climate Change Adaptation Plan 2022
  • Introduction of Climate Financing and Carbon Tax
so that losses owing to climate disasters may be
offset on time and rehabilitation may be
    expedited accordingly

52
Sindh Environmental Protection Tribunal
53

55
Conclusion
  • Environment is being degraded as usual, natural
resources are being used more than their
permissible limits and not much is being done for
the development of a climate resilient economy
and society despite of their acceptance at all
    levels
  • The urgent need is to come out from fascinating
documentations and put all our plans and policies
    into action.
  • Else we will be referred in history as a nation
which turned into rubbles owing to its climate
    inaction

56
Sectoral Recommendations
  • Overall budgetary allocations of the Department
may be doubled, more particularly at the
    development side
  • PPP models may be introduced in the execution of
its development schemes if existing manpower is
    not capable of executing them
  • A Special Purpose Vehicle under Sindh Public
Private Partnership Act 2010 may be perused to
impart eco trainings to government officers,
    teachers and grassroots elected representatives

57
  • Environment and Climate Change Awareness and
Education Portal may be established offering
online certificate and diploma courses to all
professionals of various sectors of the economy
  • A sketch may be developed of an entity which may
run the technical affairs of impending Carbon
    Market of Sindh
  • An Eco Business Promotion Policy may be issued to
invite investors in green business sector
