principle of the Möbius ring, as well as by the
Chinese knotting art In the ancient decorative
Chinese folk art, the knot symbolises luck and
prosperity

30The Lucky Knot is more than a bridge and a
connection between two river banks. Its success
lays in bringing cultures together, and in the
fusion of history, technology, innovation, art,
architecture and spectacle, adds NEXT architects
Beijing partner Jiang Xiaofei

32The Lucky Knot, in other words, is more than a
utilitarian pathway.Bridges also have a highly
metaphorical quality, Schreinemachers says.
They connect not only in a physical sense, but
also people, places, needs, and experiences. If
you want, itll get you one side to the other.
But thats far from the only point of a bridge
with neither a beginning nor an end.

37A Chinese knot is a knot that is tied and woven
from a single length of cord or rope to be
a variety of shapes and of varying complexity.
Each shape has its own symbolic meaning, and
nowadays you can find them as decoration, gifts
for special occasions, and adornments on
clothes. Most knots are double layered and
symmetrical and have two cords entering the knot
from the top and two leaving from the bottom.
Each kind of knot is named after its shape or the
symbolic meaning that it carries. Knot weavers
can use a variety of colors, but they usually
weave deep red ones as in the picture above. The
color red signifies good fortune
