Title: Know About Soft Tissue Sarcoma

1
Soft Tissue Sarcoma
2
Soft tissue sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that
develops in the soft tissues of the body. These
soft tissues include muscles, fat, blood vessels,
nerves, tendons, and connective tissues. Soft
tissue sarcomas can occur in any part of the body
but are most commonly found in the arms, legs,
chest, or abdomen. They can manifest as painless
lumps or swelling, but symptoms may vary
depending on the location and size of the tumor.
3
Types of Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS) Also
known as malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH),
UPS is a high-grade sarcoma that can develop in
any soft tissue but commonly occurs in the arms
or legs. Leiomyosarcoma Arising from smooth
muscle tissue, leiomyosarcoma most commonly
occurs in the uterus, gastrointestinal tract, or
blood vessels. Liposarcoma This type of sarcoma
originates in fat cells and can occur in deep
soft tissues of the limbs, abdomen, or
retroperitoneum.
4
Synovial Sarcoma Synovial sarcoma typically
arises near joints in the arms or legs and can
also develop in the neck or trunk. It is
characterized by its association with tendons and
synovial tissues. Rhabdomyosarcoma Most
commonly found in children and adolescents,
rhabdomyosarcoma arises from skeletal muscle
cells and can occur in various parts of the body,
including the head and neck, genitourinary tract,
and extremities. Fibrosarcoma Fibrosarcoma
originates in fibrous connective tissues and
commonly affects the limbs, trunk, or head and
neck region. Angiosarcoma Arising from blood or
lymphatic vessels, angiosarcoma can occur in
various soft tissues but is often found in the
skin, breast, liver, or deep soft tissues.
5
Symptoms of Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Lump or Swelling A noticeable lump or swelling
in the soft tissues, which may or may not be
painful. Pain or Discomfort Persistent pain or
discomfort in the affected area, especially if
the tumor presses on nearby nerves or
muscles. Limited Mobility Difficulty moving or
performing normal activities, particularly if the
tumor is located near joints or muscles.
6
Numbness or Tingling Sensations of numbness,
tingling, or weakness in the affected area, which
may indicate nerve compression or
damage. Fatigue or Weakness Generalized
fatigue, weakness, or malaise, which may result
from the body's response to the cancer or the
tumor's impact on overall health. Changes in
Bowel or Bladder Habits Difficulty urinating or
having bowel movements, especially if the tumor
is located in the pelvis or abdomen and
compresses nearby organs.
