SOLAR ENERGY COMES FROM THE SUN

SOLAR PANEL ABSORBS SUNLIGHT
The photovoltaic process begins with a silicon
photovoltaic solar cell that absorbs solar
radiation. From there, sunlight interacts with
the silicon cell, causing electrons to move and
current to flow. When sunlight hits the panel,
the panel produces direct current (DC). The
amount of power a panel can generate depends on
many factors, including panel type, panel
placement, time of day, and temperature. The
best way to determine how much energy a module
can produce is to look at its efficiency class.
Basically, the higher the efficiency, the
greater the potential for producing more energy.

INVERTER CONVERTS ENERGY
As soon as the solar module absorbs direct
current, it must be supplied to the solar
inverter. The electrical grid and devices in
your home are powered by alternating current
(AC). Therefore, an inverter must convert the DC
power collected by the panel into AC power to
produce usable power. Inverters come in two
general types String inverters and
micro-inverters. A string inverter is mounted on
the side of the house and collects all the power
generated by the system in one place. A micro
inverter is a small component attached to the
underside of each solar panel.
