    caused by Plasmodium parasites.
  • Disease Progression Parasites initially multiply
    in liver cells and then attack red blood cells
    (RBCs).
  • Parasite Species Five parasite species cause
    malaria in humans, with Plasmodium falciparum and
    Plasmodium vivax posing the greatest threat.
