• WHO WE ARE

A joint initiative of Science Technology
Climate Change Department, Govt. of Assam and
Department of Biotechnology (Govt. of India), GBP
stands as the first biotechnology park in the
North East region (NER), acting as an
intersection of science and technology to promote
entrepreneurship.
ABOUT
VISION
To explore and utilize the massive bio-resource
potential in the region and augment its footprint
in the nations biotechnology revolution.
To be a knowledge hub that convergences research,
product development, innovation and market
linkages with the end objective of promoting
entrepreneurship in Assam and NER.

• RELEVANCE TO REGION

Natural Resource Availability
Policy Support
With the region being abundant in natural
resources GBP can act as the gateway for
exploring such potential for bio-technology led
product research and development.
The biotechnology research space has received a
boost with key policy support by the Govt. of
Assam with the Assam State Biotechnology Policy
(2022-2027). A world class Biotechnology park
like GBP augments policy vision to reality.
Inter Institutional Collaboration
Biotechnology being multidisciplinary in nature,
collaboration with Research Centers
Universities will help in promotion of Science
and will provide a scope for diverse interaction.
With the presence of institutions like IIT, IIIT,
Guwahati university etc in close vicinity, the
GBP is projected to benefit through such cross
collaborations.

PROJECT SITE

• The site, at National Highway 27, is located 20
  km from Guwahati airport and 13 km from the City
  Centre. IIT Guwahati (5 km) and Export Promotion
  Industrial Park (EPIP) are also in close
  proximity to the site as can be witnessed from
  the below map.

SITE ECOSYSTEM

• The Biotechnology industry needs a network of
  companies, research institutions and universities
  to thrive. The site is situated near science
  technology institutes such as IIT Guwahati,
  Institute of Advanced Studies in Science
  Technology Guwahati, North East Institute of
  Science Technology Jorhat and other research
  centres in Jorhat, Tezpur, Nagoan etc.
• Universities such as Gauhati University, Assam
  Agriculture University, Tezpur University, Assam
  University and North Eastern Hill University are
  also situated in proximity to the site. Other
  industrial parks located in its vicinity are Tea
  Park, Export Promotion Industrial Park, Bamboo
  Technology Park, Mega Food Park, and Software
  Technology Park etc.
• Thus, the state has a large pool of scientific
  talent, which provides the requisite ecosystem
  for the project. The concentration of such
  institutes, universities and industrial parks is
  expected to produce spillover effects, including
  information spill overs with respect to knowledge
  and technology, development of skilled labour
  markets and development of market around the
  park. The below map details the presence of
  various industrial parks in Guwahati and Assam.

BUSINESS ENTERPRISE ZONE

• Business Enterprise Zone (BEZ) is the core
  facility of the Guwahati Biotech Park. Typically,
  a bulk of the area of GBP is allocated to this
  component. The BEZ of GBP will serve as the space
  suitable to medium and large biotech (and allied
  areas) players keen on setting up manufacturing
  or research facilities on long term lease basis.

BUSINESS ENTERPRISE ZONE
Business Enterprise Zone is targeted to harness
the biotech allied industry potential of Assam
and north-east region. This project is
anticipated to have a direct impact on economic
activity of the state. Potential sectors to

LEASING OF LAND AT BUSINESS
ENTERPRISE ZONE (BEZ)

• GBP would plot the developed land allocated for
  the Business Enterprise Zone. GBP would offer
  lease of ready to use plots to the medium and
  large scale enterprises in biotechnology and
  allied areas who would undertake development of
  required infrastructure for its business
  operations subject to commercial and development
  control norms of the State.
• The Maximum period of lease shall be for a period
  of 30 years with a provision of renewal of
  another 30 years thereafter.
