What is PCB assembly?

• The process of mounting electronic components
  onto a printed circuit board (PCB). The PCB
  provides the electrical connections between the
  components

Types of PCB assembly

• Through-hole assembly Components are inserted
  into holes drilled in the PCB. The components are
  then soldered in place.
• Surface mount assembly (SMT)Components are
  mounted directly onto the surface of the PCB. The
  components are then soldered in place using a
  reflow oven.
• Mixed assembly A combination of through-hole and
  SMT components are used.

The PCB assembly process

• Design and layout The PCB is designed and the
  components are laid out.
• Fabrication The PCB is fabricated, which
  involves etching the copper traces and drilling
  the holes.
• Solder paste stenciling A stencil is used to
  apply solder paste to the PCB
• Component placement A pick and place machine
  places the components onto the PCB.
• Reflow soldering The PCB is placed in a reflow
  oven and the solder paste is melted, bonding the
  components to the PCB.
• Inspection The PCB is inspected to ensure that
  all of the components are properly placed and
  soldered.

• Testing The PCB is tested to ensure that it is
  functioning properly.
• Finishing The PCB is finished, which may involve
  coating, silkscreen printing, or other processes.
• Packaging The PCB is packaged for shipping.
