Title: The Future is Here: Introducing BS VI Engine Technology
1The Future is Here Introducing BS VI Engine
Technology
2What Are BS VI Engines?
Bharat Stage VI or BS VI engines are the latest
and most stringent emission standard for
automobiles and engines in India. Using advanced
technologies such as exhaust gas recirculation,
selective catalytic reduction, and diesel
particulate filters, BS VI engines control and
reduce emissions. It is a shift towards cleaner
and more efficient technologies.
3How Are BS VI Engines Different from BS IV
Engines?
BS VI engines are significantly different from
their predecessors, the BS IV engines. The
primary difference is in the level of emissions
control. These new-age engines have much
stricter emission standards than BS IV engines,
and they emit significantly lower levels of
harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx),
particulate matter (PM), and hydrocarbons (HC).
The shift to BS-VI engines from BS-IV engines
has cut down pollution levels by 80-90.
4How Do These BS-VI Engines Bring Down Pollution
Levels?
These engines are designed to have significantly
lower emissions such as nitrogen oxides (NOx),
particulate matter (PM), and other harmful
pollutants compared to the previous generation
of engines. NOx reduced by 70 PM (PM 2.5 and PM
10) reduced by 80
5The Fuel for BS VI Engines
- When BS VI engines are run on fuel that is not BS
VI- compliant, such vehicles do not adhere to
the latest norms. These engines run on fuel
which is commonly known as BS VI fuel. This kind
of fuel has sulphur content equal to 10mg/kg
which is much lower than the BS IV grade fuel
having sulphur equal to 50mg/kg.
6Conclusion
There is no doubt that the several improvements
in the BS-VI-compliant engines are paving the
way to a cleaner environment. The BS VI engines
represent significant improvements over their
predecessors in terms of reducing emissions and
improving air quality.
