Virucidal Activity of Chemicals Intended for
Disinfection of Inanimate and Nonporous
environmental surfaces

A surface test known as ASTM E1053 is used to
evaluate the virucidal activity of chemicals used
to disinfect inanimate objects and nonporous
environmental surfaces. Microbicides in liquid,
aerosol, or trigger-spray form are among the
products that ASTM E1053 will be used to assess
for virucidal activity.

The majority of viruses that thrive and reproduce
in cell cultures can be tested using ASTM E1053.
This test can also be applied to other virus
cultivation media, such as cultured embryonated
eggs.
