The term metaverse was coined in Neal
Stephenson's 1992 science fiction novel Snow

metaphor of the real world.

Current States of the Metaverse
Roblox Roblox is a popular online gaming
platform that allows users to create and play
games in a shared environment. It has a large
user base and a thriving community of creators
who develop games and other experiences using
the platform's built-in tools. Fortnite
Fortnite is a battle royale-style game that has
become a cultural phenomenon in recent years. It
includes a social hub where players can interact
with one another, and it has also hosted virtual
concerts and other events that have drawn
millions of viewers.

Second Life Second Life is an older virtual
world that has been around since 2003. It allows
users to create avatars and interact with one
another in a wide range of virtual environments,
including shopping malls, nightclubs, and
museums. Decentraland Decentraland is a
blockchain-based virtual world where users can
buy and develop virtual real estate and create
their own experiences. It uses cryptocurrency to
enable transactions and ownership of virtual
assets.
