Introduction
  • The ILA was founded in Brussels in 1873, with the
    belief that international law is key to peace,
    justice and development in a globalized world .
    The ILA has a vibrant and growing community of
    over 4,500 members and 63 branches worldwide,
    including the Australian Branch.

Primarygoals
  • Its constitutional objectives are the study,
    clarification and development of international
    law, both public and private, and the furtherance
    of international understanding and respect for
    international law. The ILA has consultative
    status, as an international non-governmental
    organisation, with a number of the United Nations

Summary
  • The ILA is a vibrant international law community
    with 63 branches worldwide and a growing
    membership of over 4,500 members. Membership of
    the Australian Branch is open to all persons
    interested in international law, regardless of
    the stage of their legal career. Members include
    lawyers in private practice, academia, government
    and the judiciary, as well as non-lawyer experts
    from commercial, industrial and financial
    spheres. Membership of the Australian Branch is
    for one calendar year pursuant to a resolution
    of the Management Committee, members who join or
    renew their membership in the final quarter of
    the calendar year will automatically have their
    membership rolled over to the next calendar year
    at no extra charge.
