WHAT TO DO IF IVF FAILS AGAIN?
2
  • Many women with unsuccessful IVF cycles will
succeed on their second or third attempt.
  • Not all problems affecting IVF efficiency can be
solved, but some problems can be solved to
improve the chances of pregnancy in the next
    cycle.

Age
  • The age of the female partner is the most
    important predictor of IVF success.
  • As women get older, their eggs become older,
fewer eggs are produced, and the quality of the
    eggs decreases.
  • It starts in your thirties and accelerates after
you reach the age of 37.
  • According to the survey, the chance of live birth
from an IVF cycle using fresh non-donor eggs is
    about 32 for a 35-year-old woman but only 12
    for a 41- or 42-year-old woman.

5
Embryos Quality
  • Another reason for IVF cycle failure is poor
    embryo production.
  • Usually, chromosomal or genetic defects prevent
the embryo from implanting and maturing.
  • Older eggs are more likely to produce
    poor-quality embryos.
  • Poor-quality embryos can also be the result of
    sperm defects and morphological problems.

6
Ovarian Reaction
  • Many eggs are produced by the ovaries in response
to fertility medication, which is essential for
    successful IVF.
  • Due to hormonal disturbances, which can occur in
women with normal reserves in some cycles or even
when there are fewer eggs in their ovaries than
expected, in some cases, women cannot produce
    more than one egg.
  • If you are over 37, you are more likely to have a
subpar response if you have high FSH
    (follicle-stimulating hormone) or low AMH
    (anti-Müllerian hormone) levels.

How to prepare for the next cycle?
  • Before your next visit, your fertility specialist
will carefully review your cycle history,
including problems with ovarian stimulation, egg
quality or quantity, embryo formation, or embryo
    transfer to your uterus.

  • If you experience problems with ovarian
stimulation or egg production, your doctor may
suggest changing the medication used in the next
    stimulation procedure.
  • If the eggs and embryos are healthy, a second IVF
    cycle can be successful.
  • Some doctors recommend hysteroscopy to help
regenerate the endometrium and thus increase the
chances of implantation in the next cycle.

9
  • If a strong genetic cause is suspected or you
have a history of repeated miscarriages, your
    doctor may recommend preimplantation genetic
screening (PGS) to screen embryos in your next
    IVF cycle.
  • PGS is performed before implantation.
  • This procedure involves removing a biopsy from
the fetus and examining the cells for the number
    of chromosomes.
  • This allows experts to select healthy embryos
that are free of genetic abnormalities.
  • If the eggs and embryos are found to be healthy
and no other problems are found, your second IVF
cycle can have the expected results.
