Title: Digestive Problems: 7 Common Causes

1
Digestive Problems 7 Common Causes
2
  • Reflux
  • Gallstones
  • Ulcers in the stomach
  • Colitis Ulcerative
  • Crohns Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Hemorrhoids

3
Reflux
  • When stomach acid goes up your esophagus, it can
sometimes enter your throat or mouth, causing
reflux. This acid backwash can induce esophageal
and throat irritation, as well as chest pain
(known as heartburn). GER or GERD can induce
reflux. Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is also
known as acid reflux, and it can occur after
eating a large meal or drinking coffee or
    alcohol.

4
Gallstones
  • Gallstones affect around 25 million people in the
United States, with over 75 of them being women.
Gallstones are solid masses that form in the
gallbladder when bile crystalizes. They might be
as small as a grain of sand or as huge as a golf
ball. When gallstones become lodged in a
    gallbladder duct, the gallbladder contracts,
causing an acute or knife-like pain in the upper
    right abdomen.

5
Ulcers in the stomach
  • Peptic ulcers are open sores on the stomach
lining or at the tip of the small intestine that
cause abdominal pain. Some bacteria can
compromise the stomach lining, allowing acid to
come into direct contact with the stomach wall
    and produce ulcers.
  • Other causes of peptic ulcers include smoking and
overuse of anti-inflammatory medicines such as
    Motrin, Advil, and Aleve.

6
Colitis Ulcerative
  • Ulcerative colitis is a disorder characterized by
inflammation of the large intestine, resulting in
ulcers on the lining. Symptoms include stomach
aches and a constant desire to urinate.
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic condition, which
means it is ongoing and has no cure. However,
therapeutic options such as dietary changes and
    medication may help improve symptoms.

7
Crohns Disease
  • Crohns disease is similar to ulcerative colitis
in that inflammation occurs throughout the GI
system, not only in the large intestine, and can
affect any region of the GI tract, from the mouth
    to the anus.
  • Crohns disease symptoms include stomach pain,
diarrheas, cramps, and severe weight loss.

8
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most
common digestive ailments, affecting one out of
every ten people each year. IBS symptoms include
    abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, gas,
    bloating, constipation, and bowel movement
    alterations.
  • IBS can cause disruptions in ones everyday life.

9
Hemorrhoids
  • Hemorrhoids are enlarged blood vessels in the
anus or rectum that produce extreme itching and
pain. Pregnancy, ageing, severe constipation, and
diarrhea can all raise your risk of hemorrhoids.
Most hemorrhoids resolve themselves on their own
or with the use of modest measures such as stool
softeners and avoiding hard lifting or straining.
