Title: Red Velvet Waffles Recipe - Harsha Enterprises
1RED VELVET WAFFLES
The name red velvet has always fascinated me
because of its namesakes in cakes and pancakes
and waffles. For those who are as curious to
know the source of such name, here is a little
piece of history- Velvet-like texture for
bakery items has been in practice from the 19th
century. The smoother and finer texture was
developed by using cocoa to soften flour. But
the red velvet came into existence during world
war II. The war caused scarcities in the supply
of bakery items like sugar and butter making
their prices going through the roof. But the
present day red velvets have little to do with
beets but rely more on a combination of
processed cocoa and red food coloring.
2RED VELVET WAFFLE RECIPE
You can try this simple vegan red velvet waffle.
Use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose
flour if you want it healthy. Whole wheat flour
has much more fibers and other nutrients. Gluten
free flour can be another healthy option.
Coconut oil can be used instead of butter and
normal sugar can give way to cane sugar,
turbinado sugar, or coconut sugar, or zero
calorie sweetener.
Preparation time 10mins Cooking time 10 mins
Total time 20 mins Serves 4-5
people Ingredients Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
Baking powder - 1 tsp Liquid sweetener - 2 tbsp
Coconut oil, melted - 1 tbsp A pinch of
salt Vegan milk - 1 cup Vanilla extract - ½ tsp
Cocoa powder - 1 tbsp Red food color - 4 - 6 drops
3Alternatively, you may use premix for eggless red
velvet waffles which is a readymade blend of
main ingredients. Add flour, sugar and milk as
per the instructions given on the
label. Directions Preheat the waffle iron and
grease it with a little coconut oil. In a bowl,
add the dry ingredients whole wheat flour,
baking powder, salt, cocoa powder and mix them
thoroughly. In another bowl, pour all the wet
ingredients coconut oil, sweetener, vegan milk,
food color, and vanilla extract, and mix
thoroughly using a whisk. Add dry mix to the wet
mix and stir well until the batter is thick but
flowing. Scoop batter into each section of the
waffle iron and level off evenly. Close the iron
and cook it for around 3-4 minutes, until the
waffle turns deep red and crisp on the outside.
Use remaining batter for more waffles. Serve the
waffles hot with your favorite toppings of fruits
and nuts and drizzle them with maple syrup,
whipped cream, etc. We can make various types of
waffles by adding Harsha Enterprises premixes,
