Poultry Vaccine Market
An Introduction to the Poultry Vaccine
6
Introduction
  • The poultry industry is one of the biggest
sectors in the agriculture industry in the world.
According to the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA), the combined value of
production from broilers, eggs, turkeys, and the
value of sales from chickens in 2020 was 35.5
billion. In 2019, China had the highest poultry
bird stock throughout the Asia Pacific region,
with a stock of over 6.17 billion.
  • Bird flu, also known as Avian flu, is a common
phenomenon among birds. Avian influenza viruses
infect birds like chickens, ducks, and others and
can communicate to humans through them. When
birds are raised for commercial purposes, they
are likely to be vulnerable to these pathogens.
Routinely used vaccines in chickens include MDV,
NDV, IBV, and IBDV, and in turkeys NDV and HEV.

7
Poultry Disease
  • New Castle Disease or Ranikhet Disease - This is
an acute viral disease of poultry characterized
by involvement of respiratory system, a drop in
egg production and mortality as high as 100 in
severe cases. This is caused by the paramyxovirus
    type-I.
  • Mareks Disease - It is a highly contagious viral
disease of poultry characterized by enlargement
of nerves and internal organs. This is caused by
    the herpes virus.
  • Infectious Bursal Disease - It is otherwise
called Gumboro disease, infectious bursitis, or
Avian nephrosis. B-lymphocytes are the primary
target cells. It primarily affects the bursa of
Fabricius, an important organ responsible for
immunity. This is caused by the Birna Virus.
  • Infectious Coryza - Infectious coryza is an
acute, highly contagious, bacterial disease of
the upper respiratory tract of chickens. A
chronic respiratory disease can develop when
complicated by other pathogens. This is caused by
    Homophiles paragallinarum.

8
  • Infectious Bronchitis - This is a highly
infectious and contagious respiratory disease of
chicks. It affect the oviduct, and some strains
have a tendency to affect the kidneys. Other
pathogens such as Mycoplasma or E. coli increase
the severity and duration of the disease. This is
caused by the Corona group of viruses.
  • These are some of the diseases that commonly
    infect poultry birds.

Recent Development
  • According to a report by WattPoultry, Europe
pushes for acceptance of the HPAI vaccination.
  • In an interview with John Brown, DVM, senior
    technical services veterinarian and layer
specialist for Zoetis, Poultry Health Today has
claimed that the modified-live E. coli vaccine
helps control mortality and improves livability
    in layer production.
  • The Poulvac E. coli vaccine was developed in part
in the UK as the first vaccine of its type
    against E. coli disease.

Market Prospectus
Poultry constitutes a substantial share of
economic growth. The loss of poultry constitutes
a loss in the economy. During COVID, the poultry
business has seen a decline in revenue, but as
all operations get normalized, an increase in
poultry demand can be seen. To meet this demand,
it is necessary to keep chickens, turkeys, and
other birds healthy, which leads to an increase
in the demand for vaccines. Government
initiatives to educate farmers about poultry
diseases have also fueled the market. As per
Delvens market analysis report, the global
Poultry Vaccine Market size is projected to reach
a CAGR of 6.9 from 2022 to 2028.
