3HOW TO USE THE TOOL
Download and extract the QuickBooks Connection
Diagnostic Tool, as explained on the Download the
Tool tab. Double-click the QuickBooks Connection
Diagnostic Tool icon to run the tool, and then
complete the following troubleshooting steps.
1. Diagnose Connection tab This tab lets you
test the computer setup to ensure the company
data file is accessible from a workstation,
whether configured as single-user or multi-user.
If permissions are not set correctly, or if
firewalls or ports are blocked, errors can
result. 2. Firewall Status The Firewall Status
area displays basic information about the
firewall. 3. Test Connectivity The Test
Connectivity area lets you test your computer's
connectivity.
4TO TEST YOUR COMPUTER'S CONNECTIVITY
- Click the button next to the Company File field
to locate your company file. - Linux systems only If the network setup is in
Alternate mode, select the Change Hosting Server
checkbox. - Note Before you run the connectivity test, all
statuses appear as "Not Applicable" in Blue. - After you run the test, the statuses appear in
Green (no problem detected) or Red (problem
detected). - Click the Test Connectivity button once to test
all five statuses at the same time. - Click the Test Connectivity button once to test
all five statuses at the same time. - If the File Open Status appears in Red indicating
that the test failed, the Advanced section will
expand to display all areas that were checked.

about the problem and what to do next. - Note You can also click the Interpreting the
connectivity results link below to see the same
information. - When you have fixed the appropriate statuses, run
the tool again to see if there are any additional
problems. - When the File Open Status Successful message
appears on the server, repeat steps 1 through 5
on each client computer that has QuickBooks
installed.
