  dissimilar metals that create a thermoelectric
  effect where they join. This thermal junction is
  sensitive to temperature variations and provides
  a measurable voltage change as the temperature
  changes.
• By controlling the alloy composition of each leg
  of the thermocouple, you can control the response
  of the material.
