padding over time. Comparatively to Muay Thai
gloves, modern boxing gloves feature more
streamlined silhouettes. In addition to the box
shape, there is extra padding concentrated in the
front area (knuckles) to reduce the impact of

defenses more easily. Muay Thai sparring or
competitions are not recommended to be done with

The history of Muay Thai begins with Muay Boran.
It was originally intended for unarmed combat on
the battlefield. Later, during periods of peace
in the early 18th century, it was marketed as a
competitive sport. It was common for Muay Thai

hands during the early days of the sport. At the
turn of the century, under King Rama VII,
significant steps were taken to modernize Thai
boxing. Among the new rules were the introduction
of boxing rings as well as the regulation of

Muay Thai gloves took on their current form. Muay
Thai gloves, in general, feature a rounded
silhouette with all-around padding to protect
