  • It was a Sunday morning and I was enjoying
my Sunday by watching TV after all I pay monthly
subscriptions for the cable which I barely get to
watch during week days due to shortage of time
and plenty of work. Suddenly the door bell rang
and I unwillingly got up from my sofa and opened
the door. There was a girl maybe of 10-12 years
old standing with a cute smile which was so
mesmerizing that anyone can forgo all the worries
after looking at the smiling face of the little
    girl.
  • Our football has gone into your house so
if you can please give it back to us we can
continue our game. The girl urged for her
    football.
  • The voice of the girl was as sweet as
her smile and it was so sweet that I went down on
my knees and asked her What is your name,
    princess?
  • My name is Tina and by the way Im not
your princess. The girl was firm on her tone.
  • I thought to play along childish with Tina
and asked her Why cant you be my princess?
  • Im the princess of my papa and nobody
other than him calls me princess as I like being
addressed by my name only by others. The
firmness grew a bit stronger so I thought to
change the topic and asked her. You are a girl
and Ive barely seen girls playing football.

3
  • I love football and it is my favorite
game. Tinas smile was back at its place.
  • Ok, but why not dolls as all the girls
love playing with dolls and the doll house. I
    asked Tina.
  • I dont know but I love football and it is
    my favorite game. Tina repeated.
  • Her statement got me laughing the way she
said I dont know and kept on repeating her love
    for her favorite game.
  • I liked the conversation and I thought to
continue it so I asked her Ive never seen you
before here so where do you stay?
  • We have recently shifted here and I stay
in the next house. She said.
  • Oh, you are my neighbor, I did not know
about it. It raised my inquisitiveness.
  • Yes, now can you please give my
football back as I barely have enough time left
to play. Tina forcefully tried to enter my house
for seeking her football. I allowed her and she
straight way went towards the back side of my
    house and I followed her.
  • Tina, today is Sunday and your school
must be closed today so why you have only little
time to play? I generally enquired for the sake
of continuation of our lovely conversation.
  • Doctor has advised me to play for only
half an hour every day and you wasted my five
minutes. She picked up her football and went
toward the exit of my house.
  • The word doctor pinched me a bit and out
of curiosity I asked her, Tina why will doctor
say this and restrict you to play for only half
    an hour?

4
  • The doctor has said Im suffering from
cancer and I need to take only rest. She ran out
of my house by leaving me standstill. I was
wondering about the innocence of the child who
barely knows the consequences of the disease
which she is suffering from. The way she depicted
her story of disease it may be light for her but
it was very tough for matured ones like us to
    digest.
  • I came out of my house and decided to
visit her house and meet her parents.
  • Hello, can I come in? I asked for the
permission, the door was open and a gentleman was
sitting with a lady so I presumed them to be the
    parents of Tina.
  • My name is Akash and Im your neighbor,
it seems you people have recently shifted. I
tried to start a conversation with a formal
introduction. Both of them got from their seat
    and greeted me back.
  • Please come in, Yes we have recently
shifted. They offered me to seat and a formal
conversation started between all three of us
about our family and background. But the purpose
of my visit was something else, to know more
    about that innocent kid.
  • I interrupted our normal conversation
and tried to put my question straight in front of
them Tina came to my house as she got her
football in my house by mistake. She said that
    she is suffering from cancer.

5
  • There was a silence in the room for a
while but the silence did not lasted for too long
as Tina came in running with her football in her
hand Can I play for few more minutes as Ive got
    few new friends here?
  • I looked towards her parents who looked
helpless and I felt guilty for asking this
question, so I thought that leaving would be a
better option so I asked them I think I should
leave and Im sorry as I dont think it was a
right question to ask. I got up from my seat and
    turned towards the door.
  • Wait, you dont need to be sorry as it
barely changes the hardcore reality and it is
true that our daughter is suffering from cancer
and that too it is a last stage. The main purpose
of shifting to this city was her medical
treatment as she needs better treatment for her
survival. Her father narrated the entire story
that the chances of her survival are very less
but they are leaving no stone unturned for her
    survival.
  • Sunday passed by and I got into my
normal routine of leaving early morning for
office and returning back home quite late in the
night. Another Sunday came in and I was just
standing out of my house watching my so called
princess playing her favorite game with her new
friends. I waved her and she waved me back, it
was a strange relationship which got established
between both us after our first meeting. I was
just wondering about the kind of mental trauma
her parents must be going through after knowing
that their daughter might say a final good bye
    any day.

6
  • Another Sunday arrived and I eagerly went
out to watch my so called princess playing but
strangely she was not playing that day. I stood
there for some time with a  hope of her arrival
in some time but she did not came to play that
    day.
  • I went to her out of curiosity just to
know her wellbeing, but the door was locked from
outside. The locked door increased my anxiety and
I started enquiring about my princess, finally I
got to know that my princess has got admitted in
a nearby hospital. I went straight to hospital
and the while I was going to the hospital there
was only one question which was haunting me all
the time and that was I barely know her and her
family, will it be ok visiting her ?
  • I entered the hospital and fortunately I
did not happen to enquire much about her in the
hospital as I found her father standing in the
    cash counter.
  • Hello, how are you? I asked her father.
  • Akash, how come you in the hospital I
hope everything is all right with you? Her
    father asked me back.
  • Im sorry but I came here to see Tina as
I got to know that she got admitted in the
    hospital. I softly answered him.
  • Oh, thats great please come and it is
good that you came in as in todays world people
barely think about others so do not be sorry for
it. After all Tina considers you as her family
she calls you neighbor uncle. He said and it
gave me a huge sigh of relief as I was completely
blank at that point and I barely know her and her
    parents completely.

7
  • Hello Princess, what are you doing here,
I was waiting for you at the play area so that we
can waive each other. I held her hand as the
sight of numerous tubes and pipes in the room
was painful for me to watch.
  • Doctor has asked me to stay here for few
days and after that Ill be back on my feet and
this time we both will play together. Tina
    replied me back.
  • That is so very wonderful, but dont you
miss your favorite game? I asked her.
  • I miss my favorite game very badly but
doctors and mummy papa all of them has asked me
to stay for few days. She was about to cry but I
tried to console her by saying that It is so
very amazing that Tina will be back playing her
favorite game in few days time, but since you
love football and now when doctors and mummy papa
have asked you take rest so meanwhile you can
enjoy reading sports magazine which based on your
favorite game. This magazine tells you the trick
    as well for playing nicely.
  • I handed over a sports magazine to Tina
which I bought while coming to meet her as I was
not having any clue so as to what should I take
along for her. She was happy, days turned to
weeks and weeks turned into months, her health
condition started declining but every Sunday I
use to visit her and we use to talk lots about
football and every time I use to get a new sports
magazine for her with a promise that she would
finish the entire magazine and we both would
discuss about it in coming Sunday.

  • One day I was being asked to visit an official
offsite due to which I missed few Sundays
visiting my so called princess. Unfortunately
those days were not equipped with todays mobile
phone and video calls, the conversation over the
calls during those days were very minimal. I was
completely unaware about the happening of Tinas
health condition and my stay went a bit longer
    than expected.
  • I returned back from my official tour and while
returning back I was very much eager to know
about Tinas condition so instead of going to my
house I decided to visit her house. The moment I
entered the house the scene was not at all
desirable. There were few flowers kept in front
of the photograph, now the smile of my princess
was being framed as her survival in this painful
    world ended.
  • She was looking for you during her last days,
and there is a note along with a magazine which
she asked me to give you back. Her father handed
me all the magazines which I got for her during
my visiting days. I took the magazine and the
note and left for my home without saying a single
word as I was completely speechless.

9
  • I sat on the sofa and was just turning
the pages of magazine to recollect the memories
which I shared with my princess. There was a
magazine in which there was a bookmark so I
turned directly to that page where in there was a
small note. I picked up the note and started
    reading, it says.
  • Dear Uncle, Im extremely sorry that I
leaving this magazine unfinished as now Im
unable to read properly, I hope you will
understand. TINA. I took the bookmark out of the
magazine and decided to keep it as my lifelong
possession , I was completely numb after reading
this letter and all of sudden tears rolled out of
    my eyes.
