4Obtaining a Study Permit
Obtaining a Study Permit is essential for all
foreign nationals looking to pursue their
education in Canada in a post-secondary level
program that lasts more than six months. It is
usually valid till 90 days after the completion
of the study program. If the course/program
finishes before the originally intended date of
completion, the study permit stays valid till 9o
days after the completion of the course. On the
other hand, if the program is extended, then the
student has to apply for an extension of the
Study Permit.

5Picking the right School and Program
- Here are some of the key things to consider when
picking the right School and Program - Program Once the applicant finalizes a certain
program, he/she must then shortlist a few
different universities/colleges offering the same
program. Keeping these choices open is like
having Backup Plans. While its important to
apply to the program that one desires, there is
no guarantee of selection into that program,
which is why one must apply to various programs
and different colleges. - College vs Universities Universities are known
to offer a much bigger variety of subjects and
specializations because of the presence of
various departments within the university.
Colleges, on the other hand, have relatively
limited infrastructure and offer lesser
programs. The student should ensure that the
college that he/she is applying to is
a Designated Learning Institute (DLI).
6STUDYING WORKING IN CANADA
- Working while studying is one of the biggest
advantages of choosing Canada for ones further
studies. As per the current rules, most students
are allowed to work for up to 20 hours a week
while school is on and can even work full-time
during scheduled breaks like the summer break or
the Christmas break. The condition allowing one
to work in Canada is listed with The Study
Permit. These jobs can be - On-Campus
- Off-Campus.
