Everything to Know About LPS Series DC Power
Supplies

1. What is an LPS Series DC Power Supplies
  • The LPS series dc power supplies are intended for
use in semiconductor equipment, as well as OEM
    and industrial applications.
  • They come in power levels ranging from 1,000 to
13,500 Watts and can be used in constant current
    or constant voltage applications.
  • Heater, filament, and magnet supply, as well as
test and burn-in applications, are all common
applications. For higher power, all models can be
    paralleled, and bespoke configurations are
    available.

2. Devices Limiting Current Delivered to the Load
  • Even if they don't have one of the three ways to
limit power delivery stated above, power supplies
with external current limiting devices can be
categorized as LPS. If a power supply uses an
over-current protection mechanism (such as a fuse
or circuit breaker) to suitably limit the current
available to be provided to the load, it can be
    certified as conforming to LPS.
  • A fuse or a non-adjustable, non-auto resetting
electromechanical device must be used to limit
    current (i.e. a circuit breaker).
  • With a current equal to 210 percent of the
current specified in the regulations, the fuses
or circuit breakers must break the circuit within
    120 seconds.

3. LPS Certification and Labeling
  • Compliance with LPS standards is often documented
in the power supply's Certification Body (CB)
Scheme report, which includes test findings from
safety organizations like as UL, CSA, or TUV.
  • Though most LPS compatible devices from CUI will
have the LPS mark, as illustrated below, marking
"LPS" on the power supply label is optional.
