Derived from French and pronounced as
bah-lee-age-balayage means' sweeping'. So, it
entails sweeping a high lightener on a hair to
accentuate highlights. Balayage is a free-hand
technique used to pain highlights on hair strands
to create a natural and soft gradation of
lightness at the ends. You can notice the results

Difference between balayage and highlights The
term highlight refers to a strand or part of the
hair that is of a lighter shade than the base
shade. Contrary to traditional belief, highlights
haven't been designed for blondes, but they refer
to hair strands that can be lightened with their
shades of color. Highlights are conventional
techniques whereby a method is known as "foiling"
is applied. During the "foiling stage," different
foil sheets are applied for separating hair
strands that will eventually be wrapped with a
lightener or color before being covered inside
the foil for further processing. The foil helps
prevent the lightener from spreading on the
nearby hair strands while trapping heat. As a
result, this will help the lightener to come out
more easily. Foil highlights are placed nearby
the scale to ensure the hair is lightened from
scratch to the ends. This method is effective for
achieving an overall highlighted appearance.

On the other hand, balayage is an easy technique
of hair highlights that uses more free-hand and
natural methods. Usually, it doesn't apply foil
for separating hairs. Balayage imparts a soft and
natural shade of lightness to the hair strands.
