Brushing twice a day is the way of life, and this
habit is one of the most effective ways to keep
your teeth healthy for an extended period. Thanks
to all the improvements in the field of oral
health care, you have a lot more options than
ever before. Studies over the years have proven
that using a Sonic toothbrush or an Oscillating
toothbrush is much more effective than the manual
method. The problem now is finding out which type
of electric toothbrush is the one for you. To
understand that, here is the difference between
an oscillating electric toothbrush and a sonic
toothbrush. Before you dive into the big leagues,
one must understand what an electric toothbrush
is?Traditionally we are trained to brush our
teeth with a brush going in circular motions and
making sure every corner of the tooth is touched
correctly. But with an electric toothbrush, you
have the advantage of speed and accuracy. While a
conventional toothbrush that we use manually
rotates at 300 rpm, an electric toothbrush
rotates at a minimum of 1200 rpm. This by itself
is a significant boost in terms of raw power. Add
that with the additional technology that comes
with an electric toothbrush you have yourself a
winner. Under the electric toothbrush, you have
two main options an oscillating toothbrush and a
sonic toothbrush. So here are some advantages
that you will have by using an electric
toothbrush.

Advantages of using an electric toothbrush
  • Fast movements than standard methods
  • It helps reach more areas with precise control
  • 2 minute times inbuilt so you do not brush over
    the recommended time
  • 30 seconds beep to make sure you're not touching
the same spot for too long
  • Some brushed can be connected to an app via
Bluetooth for a better understanding of the oral
    health
  • Inbuilt pressure sensor
  • Options to change between modes to meet your
    requirements
  • Suitable for all teeth types

What is an Oscillating toothbrush?
  • Like the name suggests, a rotating, oscillating
electric toothbrush moves in a circular motion at
7500- 8500 rpm. The bristles are placed in a
circular pattern, providing more support to this
brush's rotation. Because of this constant
circulation motion, the brush head can clean more
plaque on the teeth as it has more power than a
manual method, by a study conducted at the
    Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz. An
    oscillating electric toothbrush cleans
approximately 65 percent more than the
    traditional manual method.

What is a sonic toothbrush?
  • Unlike an oscillating toothbrush, this relies
mainly on speed instead of movements. A sonic
toothbrush vibrated about 3000 times per minute.
Compared to the 7500- 8500 rpm, this seems like a
considerable number. Especially if you compare it
to an oscillating toothbrush that's maximum
rotation is somewhere around 3000 pm. Because of
this vast difference in numbers, it is always a
    good thing theoretically.
  • Along with the high-speed vibrations, the sonic
toothbrush also comes with fluid dynamics
technology. This mixes water, saliva, and
toothpaste and pushes them deep into your teeth
and gums. This, along with the ultra-fast
bristles movements, results in a significant
    improvement in overall oral health.
