1Large span structure

2Shanghai Stadium
The Shanghai Gymnasium is located in the
southwestern area of Shanghai, opposite the
famous Huating Hotel. It is now called Shanghai
Grand Stage. It was completed and used in 1975.
The main hall is circular, 33 meters high, with a
roof grid span of 110 meters in diameter, and can
accommodate 18,000 spectators. After renovation
in 1999, a double-deck stage of 1,250 square
meters was added with advanced facilities. It is
currently the first theater-style gymnasium in
China. It can undertake various theatrical
performances, large-scale sports competitions,
assemblies, large-scale exhibitions, etc., and
the audience capacity can still be maintained at
about 12,000.

4Structural system
The space frame structure is a circle with
a diameter of 124.6 meters and is supported by 36
pillars evenly distributed on the circumference
of the 110 meter diameter circle. The support
point is cantilevered by 7.30 meters, and there
is a gas tower in the middle of the grid. The
height of the grid is 6 meters, the middle arch
is 2.5 meters, and it is composed of more than 1
1 400 16 manganese seamless steel pipes and more
than 90 steel balls. The total design weight is
60 tons

10Space Truss Structure
- Use a relatively common large-span roof
structure. This structure has strong integrity,
good stability, large space rigidity and good
shockproof performance. The height of the net
frame is small, and smaller rod-shaped components
can be used to assemble a large-span building,
effectively using the building space. The
large-span grid structure suitable for industrial
production can be divided into two types flat
grid and shell grid, which can adapt to a variety
of flat shapes such as round, square, and
polygonal. Flat-shaped grids are mostly
double-layered, and shell-shaped grids are
divided into single-layer and double-layer, and
there are single-curve, hyperbolic and other roof
forms. - In the late 1950s, Shanghai Tongji University
once built an assembled monolithic reinforced
concrete single-story joint square shell
structure. The clear span of the hall is 40
meters and the outer span is 54 meters. The
reconstruction design of Shanghai Cultural Square
adopts the steel structure spherical joint flat
slab grid frame, which was completed in 1970.
The New Orleans Gymnasium, built in 1976, has a
circular plane diameter of 207.3 meters and is
the largest steel grid structure building in the
world today.
