Influences Route Planning?
3What is Map Data?
Map data is the cumulative information of
everything present geographically in the world
- be it natural or man made. It is the
collection of all geospatial information that is
present on the surface of the earth.
4What Does Map Data Include?
Map data is inclusive of information such as
Road elevation
Latitudinal longitudinal information
Vegetation density
Weather conditions
Fuel Pump
Restaurants
5Why and How Is Map Data Collected?
Why Map data is collected to enhance digital map
detailing. Therefore, when following a route
through maps, drivers know what to expect and
where to get the things they might need on the
way. How Map data can be collected through
either satellite imaging or in real-time through
video telematics or IoT sensors. All collected
data is integrated into designated maps used by
the software and makes all geospatial
information visible.
6Route Planning and Map Data?
Route Planning focuses on getting from the
starting point to the destination in the least
possible time using the least possible
resources. While this means that route planning
will find the quickest and shortest route
between point A and B, it also requires taking
map data into consideration. Why? Well see in
the next slide!
7How Map Data Allows Better Route Planning
- Map data allows managers to mark stopping plans
for drivers to relax such as restaurants and
overnight hotels - Through weather insights, routes can be planned
so that drivers can avoid bad weather and its
consequences. - Map data also helps see how much fuel efficiency
a route will allow.
