What is HFMD?
Hand foot and mouth disease is a highly
contagious infection commonly caused in
children's it is caused by the virus that is
coxsackievirus. This virus can spread from person
to person by direct contact like contaminated
surface unwashed hands. This virus can also
spread through droplet infection for respiratory
secretions.
Although it can affect people of all ages but
children below 5 years of age are more prone of
getting HFMD.
Symptoms of HFMD 
The symptom and science may vary individual to
individual but it may develop 4 to 5 days after
the initial infection. The most common infections
are -

  • Fever
  • Discomfort
  • Sore throat
  • Painful blisters in mouth
  •  
  • Headache
  • Poor appetite
  • Drooling
  • Unwell/ fatigue
  • Red rashes on hands

What causes Head Foot Mouth Disease
HFMD is often caused by coxsackievirus, this
virus are part of group of virus is called
enterovirus. The illness spread by person to
person contact with an infected person. Some
causes of HFMD are -
  • Saliva - It is a viral infectious disease it can
    spread through droplet infection.
  • Blister fluid - Try to clean your blisters as to
    avoid contact from the blister fluid.
  • Feces
  • Mucus
  • Coughing or sneezing

HFMD can also be transmitted through direct
contact with unwashed hands or infected
surfaces.
Prevention of HFMD

1) Washing hands frequently -
  • Wash your hands frequently with water and soap.
    Clean your hands with alcohol based sanitizer. 
  • Always wash hands after changing diapers, after
    using toilet, after coughing or sneezing.

2) Clean and disinfect -
  • Always clean and disinfect frequently touch 
  • surfaces including toys and door knobs.

3) Isolation - 
Always try to maintain at least 6 feet of
distance from the infected person, else isolation
is the best option.

4) Avoid touching nose eyes Mouth - 
As it is a viral infection it may be spread
through touching avoid touching your eyes nose
and mouth with unwashed hands.
5) Avoid close contact with infected person - 
This disease often stud when the infected person
cough or sneeze try to avoid getting too close to
the infected person. As the incubation period is
4 to 5 days, most of the people are no longer
contagious after 7 to 10 days. 
6) Stay hygienic - 
staying hygienic plays an important role in
prevention of any kind of viral diseases. Try
keeping yourself as healthy as possible take
