GST stands for Goods and Services Tax, right from
the date of its implementation which is on the
1st of July, 2017 it has been a talk of the
nation. The basic eligibility or requirement for
a new business to have GST registration is the
turnover of at least 20 lakhs. Otherwise, the
business will be not be allowed to register for
GST. The turnover can be 10 lakhs for some of
the Special category states except for Jammu
and Kashmir. In Jammu and Kashmir GST
registration is not required. The procedure to
register with GST is very simple and free. Any
taxpayer who is seeking a normal registration
can log on to the GST portal and fill out the
Form GST REG-01. GST is a comprehensive tax that
eliminated all the taxes as earlier we used to
pay for many taxes but the Government of India
has merged all taxes under one umbrella which is
GST.
In this article, we will be looking at the
complete process of GST registration
for new businesses. This article will be very help
ful to the new entrepreneurs, and of course for
anyone willing to learn it. Eligibility criteria
for Registering for GST-

  • All those businesses which have a turnover of at
    least INR 40 lakh in a financial year are
    required to file the GST as a taxable person.
    However, the entrance limit will be INR 10 lakh
    if you have a business that is located in the
    JK, Himachal Pradesh, north-eastern states, or
    Uttarakhand.
  • Although the turnover limit to file GST is INR 20
    lakh but in the case of special category states,
    INR 10 lakh is required to register for GST.
  • The below-stated business is also required to
    file GST irrespective of their turnovers. This
    is mandatory for all these businesses to file a
    GST, otherwise, they will consider as illegal
    entities under tax laws.
  • Any Casual taxable person Or Input Service
    Distributor (ISD)
  • Any taxable person who is a non-resident.
  • The supplier's agents.
  • Any goods and services supplier Inter-state
    supplier.
  • The Supplier of goods through an e-commerce
    portal
  • Any service provider
  • Any person who is supplying information that is
    specific to the particular domain from outside
    India, to a Non-Registered Indian citizen has to
    file a GST.

Documents Required to Register for GST-
  • The documents which will be required to file a
    GST are mentioned below-
  • The PAN Card of the company.
  • The Copy of the adhaar card
  • The Proof of business registration or evidence of
    incorporation certificate

  • Identity and address proof
  • Bank statements or canceled cheque
  • The digital signature of the company
  • The Authorisation letter or resolution for
    authorization.
  • The copy of the Recent Electricity Bill or the
    Tax receipt of Property.
  • A Valid Indian bank account
  • The Jurisdiction details

Step by step guide for the registration for GST-
  • Following are the steps which you have to follow
    to register your company with GST-
  • First of all log on to the official website of
    GST and Open the GST portal.
  • After that click on the 'Registration' which is
    under the 'services'.
  • Now click on the 'New Registration' option.
  • The GST New Registration application form is
    separated into 2 parts that are Part A and Part
    B.
  • Click on 'Taxpayer'.
  • Now you have to fill in your state and district
    details which are necessary for further
    registration of GST.
  • You will be asked to enter the Legal name of the
    business field, so just enter the legal name of
    your business as mentioned in the PAN.

  1. After that you will be asked to enter the PAN of
    your business or proprietor. Fill it carefully.
  2. Fill in the email address of the primary
    authorized signatory.
  3. Now, enter the valid mobile number of the primary
    authorized signatory.
  4. Click on the captcha and then the 'Proceed'
    button.
  5. After that check all the details again carefully
    and move to part B. After the verification, you
    will get a Temporary Reference Number which is
    also known as a TRN number. The TRN will be sent
    to the registered email address and your
    registered mobile number.

PART B
  • After completing part A, come to part B of the
    registration process.
  • Click on the 'Services' and then 'Registration'.
  • Now click on the 'New Registration' option and
    click the TRN (temporary reference number)
    option and log in using your TRN credentials.
  • In the field of TRN, just fill the TRN generated
    and the captcha as shown in the screen,
  • Now click on 'Proceed'.
  • -Enter the OTP that is sent on your mobile or
    email on the verify page. Now, click on the
    Proceed button.
  • Now your Saved Application page will be
    displayed.
  • Now Under the Action column, click on the Edit
    icon.
  • -On the peak of the page, you will see the
    registration application form with 10 tabs open.

You have to click on each tab to enter details of
your business, promoter/partner,, authorized
signatory, principal additional place of
business, goods services detail, state
information, aadhaar authentication, and
verification. - After that just click on the
'Save and continue'. Once your application gets
submitted you will have to sign it digitally
using and click 'Proceed'. -After the submission
of your application you will receive an
Application Reference Number via SMS or mail to
confirm the registration process.
So these are the steps which you should have to
follow if you registering for Goods and Services
Tax services. Changes are definitely never easy.
The government is trying to smoothen the process
to GST. It is important to take a lesson from
other countries that have implemented GST before
us, and who overcame the troubles and increased
the country's revenues.
