1
Regulations that Govern the Child Care Industry
2
Child Care Services
  • These days, to have two earning members per
family has become the norm rather than the
    exception.
  • This has caused the increased utilization of
child care arrangements for preschool children,
    to help working parents.
  • Consequently, there is an onus on the education
department to frame policies that will ensure the
quality and safety of these child care services
and vet licensed child care providers.

  • Often, parents are unable to evaluate or monitor
the quality of the child care providers in their
locality, so they avoid sending them to day care.
This compromises the childs early learning.
  • The government has brought about regulations for
nonparental child care services to monitor and
improve the quality of care in care spaces to
    address this need.
  • In the U.S., such regulations are almost
exclusively the responsibility of the states.
  • States impose standards that child care services
have to follow to improve the level of quality.
  • Some standards include, limiting the number of
children per staff in a facility or classroom,
hiring staff that meet training requirements and
requiring facilities and staff to meet certain
    safety standards.
  • Early childhood educators and providers have an
ethical obligation to uphold these high
    standards.

  • Regulations to Monitor Child
    Care in San Jose
  • The California Department of Education and the
California Department of Social Services vet
child care providers in areas administered by the
    California Department of Education.
  • The California Code of Regulations are program
requirements formally adopted by state agencies
to define the program operations requirements for
    child care providers.
  • The California Department of Education ensures
that all daycare centers, preschools and child
care providers that operate under its
jurisdiction are fully licensed and are up to
    code.
  • Regular checks are done to ensure that these
child care spaces are adhering to regulations and
    protocol.
  • When parents are searching for a child care space
for their little one, it is important that they
make sure that the child care provider they are
considering has been vetted by the government
    before enrolling their child.
