What is MBOX?

• MBOX file is an email mailbox used to store
  messages and emails into a plain text file. MBOX
  stores messages in 7-bit ASCII text while
  attachments are stored in the format encoded
  format.
• The beginning of each message is specified by
  "from" and the end of each message is specified
  with a blank line. MBOX files were first used in
  Unix System, but are now supported by 20 other
  email applications such as Thunderbird, Apple
  Mail, Entourage, Gmail, SeaMonkey, mutt, etc.
