How to Select Your Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel

Description:

If you need some advice on how to select your cold drawn Annealed Stainless steel, there are some tools you should consider. The first tool to consider is a thermometer because it will determine how the sheet is going to react. Another tool to consider is the tool's tolerance to thermal shock (this measures the tool's ability to withstand heat). The last tool to consider is how much you are willing to spend so you don't get taken advantage of. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

Steel

  • When looking at hot rolled steel (also called hot
rolled steel, or simply 'rolled steel') you must
have a very clear picture of what it actually is
before you can talk about its properties.
  • If you are not a professional in the building and
construction industry you will find it hard to
    differentiate one variety from another,
especially in the arena of mild steel.
  • So, what exactly is it? What properties does it
possess? If you are looking for a quick and
simple definition you can look up Wikipedia to
    see just that.

  • Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel Sheet - this
type of steel is simply hot rolled steel that has
    been annealed.
  • Annealed means under pressure, and when working
with metals annealing creates small tears in the
metal, which cause the neighboring metals to flow
    at much faster speeds.
  • This creates a great characteristic when it comes
to cutting and forming, because the smaller the
tear the larger the cutting angle.
  • Because of this characteristic and the fact that
annealed steel has a slightly higher melting
point than unlined steel, annealed sheet is
excellent for use in abrasive applications such
as flooring and fence post holes.

4
  • It also has good thermal conductivity, which
means that the sheet can be used to surround
objects that need to be protected from high
    temperatures.
  • Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel Sheet - this
type of steel is also called flat rolled steel,
flat rolled, or simply rolled steel.
  • Flat Rolled Annealed Steel is essentially the
same as hot rolled annealed stainless steel
sheet, but the process is reversed.
  • This simply means that the cold work is done
using hot rollers and annealing takes place using
    annealing ovens.

5
  • This type of steel milling machine is often found
in abrasive grinding equipment or as an
    ingredient in forming tools.
  • There are two different ways in which the hot
    rolled surface can be produced.
  • The first way is called criss-cross, and in this
type of milling, one or both edges of the flat
plate will be positioned parallel to each other.
  • As the plate moves eastward into the annealed
zone, the edges of the plate will bend slightly,
and the plate will snap forward into position to
    form the desired angle.

6
  • The second way in which the surface can be formed
    is by lapping.
  • In this type of process, the plate is placed on a
metal blank, and the blank is placed over the
annealed steel plate, sliding it into the lapped
position until it is completely annealed.
  • Because the blank is heated in the annealing
oven, it will conform to the shape of the plate
as well, creating a tight, flat surface that will
    bend when pressed.
  • Hot Rolled Annealed Steel is very valuable in
abrasive milling because of its ability to cut
hard materials with high compressive strength.

7
  • The best of these types of plates for abrasive
purposes can cut through many types of sheet
materials and are also able to work with thinner
    sheets of metal.
  • There are many uses for Hot Rolled Annealed Steel
sheet products, including forming the base of
hand tools, making tool handles, and forming
    pipes for use as seals.
  • Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel is ideal for
forming pipes because the heat and pressure used
in forming pipes and tubes is less than what
    would normally be required.
  • This means that the annealed steel plate can be
used as the pipe base and then welded together at
the welding area, sealing the edges and
    preventing any leaks.

8
  • Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel has several
    benefits.
  • It produces a stronger more wear resistant edge
    than cold rolled sheets.
  • Abrasives are better handled when they have this
edge so that they are more likely to form tight,
    strong joints.
  • Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel has the
ability to resist corrosion from chemicals that
    are part of most construction.
  • Most of the annealed steel products will be
coated with zinc, copper or brass which provides
    additional protection against corrosion.

9
  • Some of the things you should look for when
shopping for Hot Rolled Annealed Stainless Steel
are the gauge of the plate (the thickness of the
material), the annealing time (how long it takes
to reach the maximum temperature) and the heat
    treated finish.
  • If the gauge of the plate is too thin, it will
not have enough strength and will not perform
well under stress. If the annealed time is too
long, the product will be less effective and it
    could fail prematurely.

10
  • If you need some advice on how to select your
cold drawn Annealed Stainless steel, there are
    some tools you should consider.
  • The first tool to consider is a thermometer
because it will determine how the sheet is going
    to react.
  • Another tool to consider is the tool's tolerance
to thermal shock (this measures the tool's
    ability to withstand heat).
  • The last tool to consider is how much you are
willing to spend so you don't get taken advantage
    of.
